how this started.
Being not only a nurse, but a NICU nurse and mom myself, means I get calls and texts ALL the time from friends and family who are expecting babies (and I love it!). My friends had been coming to me before, during, and after birth for advice, guidance, support, and sometimes just a listening ear. I had done video chats with girlfriends who just couldn’t get their baby to latch, numerous phone calls in desperation troubleshooting broken sleep, and little things like how little boys pee everywhere but their diaper :). Then, my friends started asking questions on behalf of their friends. Simple things like, “How much milk should I put in a bottle?” It dawned on me that there is an incredible need for new parent support and education. Someone who is reputable, knowledgable, supportive, and empathetic.
I hope one day to offer in-person lactation visits, provide baby care bootcamp, and prepare homes for baby’s arrival. For now, I’m offering support anytime on any platform- exactly the support I’d offer a close girlfriend. Hence, fourth trimester friend.
Having someone you trust at your fingertips to message late night, or to send a poop picture to, or to vent on the phone with after a rough night. That’s who I am to my friends and that’s who I want to be to my clients.
